Celebrating Our Seniors!

Published on June 11, 2019

June is Senior’s Month in Ontario and I used the occasion to continue building relationships with seniors across the riding.  On June 11, I hosted the Minister of Seniors and Accessibility for a tour of Malton Village Long-Term Care Centre and Mississauga Seniors’ Centre. The minister and I toured the innovative Butterfly Home at Malton Village, which houses people living with dementia and is the first of its kind in Ontario. On June 28, I was back at Malton Village for our Seniors’ Appreciation Day, where I met with residents over coffee and snacks to discuss their needs and concerns.

We also hosted a Seniors Strategy Consultation at Four Corners Health Centre in Westwood Mall, which was attended by the Minister of Seniors and Accessibility and his Parliamentary Assistant. This session was part of the government’s outreach to seniors to help formulate a province-wide policy to help seniors age at home and in communities, remain healthy, active and socially engaged, stay safe and secure, and participate in the labour market and economy. Attendees included various service providers, representatives of seniors’ organizations, and caregivers and seniors from the community. Some of the issues raised included mental health and wellness, appropriate transportation and housing, and homecare support.

I am committed to listen to the seniors of my riding and to make sure that their voices are heard in Queen’s Park every day of the year!
