Full STEM Ahead!

Published on July 21, 2019

With the aim of introducing young students to some of the basic principles of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in an innovative way, I hosted my very first STEM workshop on July 21 at Frank Mckechnie Community Centre from 11am to 1pm. The workshop gave our young guests the opportunity to code robots to move, and build launchers and landers with every day objects like ice-cream sticks and Styrofoam cups. Chandhu Andhe from STEM1 facilitated the event along with his team.

The Minister of Education joined us at the event and gamely participated in the various missions.  Addressing the crowd, the Minister stressed the importance of STEM as foundational learning for this generation as recent research puts skills such as coding at the forefront of future careers. I want to thank my staff, the volunteers, STEM1 and all the attendees for making the first edition a success and I look forward seeing all of you at the next one next summer!
