Saluting our Remarkable Citizens!

Published on June 23, 2019

I strongly believe that volunteers are the lifeblood of every community and it is through their dedication and hard work that we can create a positive environment. I am lucky that there are many such individuals in our Mississauga-Malton community.

In order to acknowledge their efforts and celebrate their passion for the community, I introduced the “Mississauga-Malton Annual Remarkable Citizens Awards”. We asked people to nominate respected and dedicated community leaders, volunteers, and residents who have made a positive impact in the riding, and we received a great response.

On June 28, we hosted an awards dinner at the Malton Community Centre to spotlight the first-ever recipients of this award.

Recipients included teachers and students, individuals who work with children with autism, and those who help seniors stay active through dance, people who have set up Breakfast Clubs in schools, and those who host free tax clinics for seniors, those who work through community organisations like Knights of Columbus and those who do everything they can in their personal capacity for their community. All 22 of the recipients were very deserving and I enjoyed getting to know more about them and their community work.

I would like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate people, my staff for co-ordinating the entire process and the event, and all those who attended the dinner.

Finally, congratulations again to the 22 true heroes, who are ambassadors of humanity, going above and

beyond the call of duty.
